Happy Friday, Yogi’s! 🫶🏼 nothing could be said more perfectly than this quote! The questions seem to come up as a teacher… Why yoga? Why your style of rigorous practice?
It isn’t for a pose, it isn’t for looks or burning calories or doing a handstand. It’s ALL for my mind and my soul. It may have started decades ago, by accident, in my other sports, to stretch, to recover… but what I found was a deeply spiritual internal practice that grew in my soul.
Through single-parenting (not intended) a child with challenging special needs (not what anyone wishes for), through recovery from life-changing injuries (again, not intended), to navigating mental health, physical health, and longevity… yoga has taught me, strength, physical and mental, how to quiet the mind to be able to listen to the conscious, to bring the unconscious into the conscious, to be aware of internal propaganda and return to my heart, to persevere, to be resilient, patient, balanced, on my mat and in my mind, to be present, and to live in my grace and gratitude.

What has yoga given you?
.
Don’t forget #POWERVinyasa next week, lots of added classes @yoganestvenice! Stay tuned to the schedule!

You may have noticed I took a IG detox. I recommend it for anyone. It’s nice to not be consumed but media for a min. But I was also struggling with stress, as I always do, & then my auto-immune flares up, inevitably. & as my blood flow weakens, I leave myself vulnerable to injury... another hip injury… don’t worry I’m not missing class! (But I will use the torn labrum as an excuse for my fumbles in this vid.🫣) Oh, & I turned 51. (Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes!! So grateful for the love!)
I’m so hard on myself, always pushing for more. & if you’re in my class, you’re probably like me, always challenging ourselves, growing, striving for new heights, never quitting. But isn’t it ironic… it all brings me to this week’s theme, unintentionally, actually 😉 but a reminder to listen to the soul…
PRESENCE.
What does it mean to be present? We’ve spent the last months exploring our inner thoughts, beliefs, even our actions. We’ve brought the unconscious to the conscious (Carl Jung). We may have discovered we get distracted or reactive to the mind chatter or external experience, or may even feel victim to our fate.
The best practice to stay present is to tune into your body, you can feel it with all your senses. You can enjoy a beautiful song, but you can’t touch it. You can watch a beautiful sunset, but you can’t hear it. If you feel disconnected, or just off kilter, feeling your presence in your body engages all the physical senses, bringing you instantly back to the present and back to your soul. Bring your consciousness back to your physical body. Notice sensations on your skin. Listen to your breath. Feel it’s warmth. Visualize its path. Smell. Taste. Feel the beating of your heart & sync to the rhythm of your breath… Yoga.
